What is Scrip?

Scrip is a term that means "substitute money".

When Portage Lacrosse members purchase scrip, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash.
The scrip is issued by the national and local retailers where many of Portage Lacrosse families already shop. These
merchants want to support Portage Lacrosse, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with SCRIP at their stores.
Portage Lacrosse members can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with
every purchase, they earn revenue for Portage Lacrosse.

Scrip is gift certificates to individual retailers.  Lacrosse purchases the 'scrip' at a discount and then sells them at face value
to earn money.  When you purchase 'scrip' you earn money towards either free SCRIP or Lacrosse Registration. When your
account reaches the $10 minimum you can take FREE SCRIP or save it towards the lacrosse registration fees.

Participating Scrip vendors include but are not limited to: Applebees, Speedway, Marathon, Shell and Exxon/Mobile, Office
Max, Office Depot, JCPenney, MC Sports, Old Navy, TJMaxx, Sears, Shoe Carnival, Payless

Scrip Centers acts on behalf of various non-profit organizations, including Portage Lacrosse; to purchase large amounts of
scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the
participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Portage Lacrosse buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a
discount, and re-sells the certificates to Portage Lacrosse members for full face value. The bulk of the discount - from two to
fifteen percent or more - is retained by our organization as revenue.

Example:
Purchase a Speedway gift card $200.00
Discount 4%  =  $8.00
Larosse Booster Club receives     $4.00
Lacrosse Player account receives  $4.00 (to be deducted at registration)
